Hybrid Eastern Forehand Grip 

We call this grip, the Hybrid Eastern Forehand Grip, because the V shape created by the PVG provides a perfect fit for the end of the handle underneath the base of your thumb, in a Semi-Western position.  The knuckle on the base of your index finger goes on HB , in an ALMOST Eastern Forehand position.  This produces a nice blend of the topspin potential of the SW and the linear energy of the EF.  MANY PLAYERS END UP WITH THEIR HAND IN THIS POSITION THINKING THEY HAVE MOVED ALL THE WAY OVER TO A TRUE SEMI-WESTERN GRIP.  

What will this do for your game? 

First, this grip position will cause three very significant changes when compared to the regular Eastern forehand grip.  It will cause the top of the racquet to drop lower, move it further back and close the racquet face to some extent.  This will enable you to move your contact point closer to a SW orientation.  This will add to the power and spin you can apply with a Hybrid Eastern grip.   
Second, the handle will fit so much better in your hand with the PVG attached.  Your palm will wrap around the "V" shape locked in position.  It's not that critical with a fairly level swing path but as soon as you attempt to apply topspin with a steeper swing path you will need the addition leverage and traction of the PVG.        

 Third, with the improved  GRIPABILITY you will be able to position you hand further off the handle and still have a very firm hold of it.  See photo below.   This enables the fluid use of the wrist for more racquet head speed.  Now you can power out with the EF. 

Fourth, to put your hand/wrist in a stronger position to handle higher bouncing balls or to add more spin and action to the ball you can easily move to a "full" SW grip without having to readjust the palm of your hand.  All you have to do is slide the knuckle on the base of your index finger clockwise to bevel 4 where the handle will lock in like never before.

The bottom line is you will be able to produce the action and spin that people associate with the SW grip and you are doing it with the Hybrid Eastern Forehand grip.
